Man seriously injured in landmine explosion in Azerbaijan's Jabrayil district

A 47-year-old man was seriously injured after his tractor struck a landmine while ploughing farmland in Azerbaijan's Jabrayil district on July 23, authorities said.

The incident occurred in the formerly occupied village of Hasanli, where Elshan Bahlul oghlu Shamilov, a resident of Gumlag village born in 1979, was working on land that had not yet been cleared of explosive ordnance, according to a joint statement by the press services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General's Office, and the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), Caliber.Az reports.

Shamilov was taken to the Fuzuli Central District Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with severe injuries, including a displaced fracture of the middle third of the right radius and open comminuted displaced fractures of the tibia and fibula, Azerbaijan's Management Union of Medical Territorial Units (TƏBİB) said.

The victim remains in serious condition and continues to receive treatment in a specialised hospital department.

The district prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the incident.

ANAMA, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Prosecutor General's Office once again urged the public to strictly observe mine safety regulations, pay close attention to warning signs, avoid touching suspicious objects, and refrain from entering unfamiliar or uncleared areas.
