Media: Black Lives Matter leadership suspected of misappropriation
The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the leadership of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement on suspicion of misusing donated funds, according to the Associated Press (AP), citing sources.
AP reports that in recent weeks, federal law enforcement agencies have issued several subpoenas and at least one search warrant. The investigation involves the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, which raised over $90 million in donations following the death of George Floyd in 2020.
The agency notes that the investigation began during former President Joe Biden’s administration and is now under the spotlight of President Donald Trump’s administration. The organisation has regularly faced criticism for a lack of transparency in its use of funds. It is still unclear whether the investigation will lead to criminal charges.
