Media: Death toll in Israel-Hamas war surpasses 45,000

16 December 2024 17:43

Palestinian health authorities have announced that the death toll in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war exceeded 45,000.

The toll, which includes both civilians and combatants, stands at 45,028 people, with over half of the casualties being women and children, the Gaza Health Ministry said, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

The Israeli military claims to have killed more than 17,000 militants, though it has not provided supporting evidence for this figure.

The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched an assault on Israel, killing around 1,200 people, mainly civilians and taking 250 hostages.

Since the start of the war, 106,962 people in Gaza have been wounded, according to the Health Ministry. In the latest developments, an Israeli airstrike killed at least 10 people, including a family of four, in Gaza City. Palestinian medics confirmed the deaths, stating that rescuers pulled the bodies from rubble in the Shijaiyah neighborhood.

Israel launched airstrikes on missile warehouses in Tartous, Syria, marking the most intense strikes on the region since 2012, according to a UK-based war monitor. The strikes prompted violent explosions in the coastal city, though the Israeli military did not comment on these actions.
