Media: FBI launches investigation into unidentified drones over US skies

03 December 2024 20:14

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has begun investigating the situation concerning the discovery of unidentified drones in Morris County, New Jersey.

Local residents have observed these flying objects in the sky almost every day. The drones were first spotted in mid-November, with residents noting that they are appearing more frequently and that many people want to know where they are coming from, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Local law enforcement bodies and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office have issued a joint statement, emphasising that they have no information confirming any threat to public safety.

"This statement is in response to rumours about drones circulating on social media. We urge the public to remember that information on the internet may not always be accurate," the agencies' joint statement says.

The police are continuing to monitor the situation. Those who have observed the mysterious drones in the sky report that they tend to appear during the late-night hours.

Mike Walsh, who first noticed them in mid-November, now sees them regularly.

"We've been seeing them every night, except Thanksgiving. I guess they took the night off," Walsh said.

He described hearing what initially sounded like a helicopter from inside his home. However, upon stepping outside, he realized it was something different. He contacted the police but has not received many answers so far.

"I'd really like to see one land and report it, but they're up for a long time. I don't know where they're taking off from, where they're landing," Walsh added.

The sightings have gone viral on social media, with some people expressing skepticism, while others share growing concern.

"People think they were UFOs or being spied on," said Erica Campbell.

"I really haven't heard much other than they were flying over Dover," added Alexis Calle. "What were they looking for?" Recently, local police agencies, together with county prosecutors, released a joint statement: "There is no known threat to public safety. This joint statement is being issued in response to rumours about the drone activity spreading on social media. We encourage the public to be mindful that what they read online may not be accurate." It was revealed that the FBI had also started investigating the drones.

"It was flying right over this church, continued past the train station. It had three blinking lights," Christian Velasquez remembered. "It's weird. There's multiple being spotted at the same time all around Morris County. It's definitely concerning," he added.
