Media: France to send additional Mirage jets, advanced weapons to Ukraine
France is preparing a new delivery of military aid to Ukraine, including Mirage 2000 fighter jets, precision-guided bombs, and Aster missiles for the SAMP/T air defence system, the Ukrainian defence ministry has confirmed.
A video released recently showed Ukrainian forces using the Italian-French SAMP/T system to intercept Russian cruise missiles, drones, glide bombs, and fighter jets, highlighting its role in protecting Ukrainian airspace, Caliber.Az reports via N-tv.
The SAMP/T system’s ability to counter ballistic missiles remains a matter of debate, but Ukraine expects the first upgraded SAMP/T NG units to be operational later this year.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron called on European leaders to explore restarting diplomatic talks with Russia, stressing that Europe must be prepared to manage its long-term relationship with Moscow.
In an interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung, Macron acknowledged some leaders view re-engagement as premature but argued that Europe cannot ignore its geographic reality as Russia remains a neighbour. He emphasised that any dialogue should not weaken support for Ukraine or put Kyiv under pressure and suggested talks could resume as early as December.
