Media: Hamas regains full control over part of Gaza

26 November 2025 12:38

Israeli ministers have been warned by security services that Hamas is regaining influence in Gaza.

According to MİG News, security officials stated that the group has effectively restored control over most of the areas it governs.

Of the 25 municipalities previously under Hamas control, 13 are now fully operational again. Hamas police are once again patrolling checkpoints, while the group is repairing damaged infrastructure and attempting to improve its image among local residents.

The report also quotes senior IDF officers, who believe that Israel needs to develop its own plan for Gaza’s demilitarisation, as they consider U.S. proposals in this regard insufficient.

These developments raise concerns about the fragility of the Trump administration's 20-point peace plan.

The October 2025 US-brokered Gaza ceasefire halted major hostilities after Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack killed 1,200 Israelis and took 251 hostages, followed by Israel's offensive that Gaza authorities say claimed over 69,500 Palestinian lives.

Phase 1 of the 20-point Gaza peace plan, unveiled by President Donald Trump on September 29, 2025, focused on an immediate ceasefire, hostage and prisoner exchanges, humanitarian aid surges, and initial IDF withdrawals to create space for stabilisation.

However, Phase 2, which calls for the demilitarisation of Gaza and the deployment of an international security force (ISF), has largely stalled amid mutual accusations of violations. Israel reports 24 breaches by Hamas since October 10, including incursions across the Yellow Line in Khan Younis, where three militants were eliminated on November 20. Hamas denies these claims, attributing the violations to Israeli incursions, while Gaza’s health ministry reports that post-truce strikes have resulted in over 300 deaths.
