Media: Israel's efforts against Houthis stall, military prepares for more aggressive actions
Israel has encountered difficulties in forming a US-led coalition to launch a large-scale military campaign against the Houthis in Yemen.
Walla, citing sources within the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reports that despite efforts under the Joe Biden administration, Israeli officials are hopeful that a shift in leadership could bring a more favourable outcome once Donald Trump returns to power, per Caliber.Az.
The IDF sources revealed that Israel is considering a shift from reactive to preventive strategies in its approach toward the Houthis. This would involve conducting targeted attacks to preemptively thwart potential threats against Israel.
In response to the growing threat, IDF Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi has ordered heightened readiness within the military to prepare for further Houthi attacks, including more extreme scenarios than those Israel has faced so far.
However, the Israeli military faces significant challenges in gathering intelligence on the Houthis, making it difficult to identify effective targets in Yemen. This lack of intelligence complicates efforts to carry out airstrikes that would make a meaningful impact on deterring the Houthi forces.
"Air force attacks are costly, so it’s crucial to use them strategically, based on precise intelligence about key figures, terrorist infrastructure, and national resources supporting terrorist activities," said one source.
The effort to prevent weapon supplies to the Houthis is also a key focus, with Israel working closely with its intelligence community on this front. The sources indicated that the intelligence efforts are expected to yield results in the near future.
Israel's struggle to confront the Houthis is a complex issue, requiring not only military action but also significant intelligence coordination across various agencies to effectively disrupt the group’s operations.
