Media: Israel’s Mossad created secret unit to accelerate Iran’s collapse
The Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom has reported that the Mossad established a secret unit tasked with infiltration operations and efforts to destabilise the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing it as part of a broader strategy aimed at accelerating pressure on Tehran.
According to the report, the unit was formed in 2021 after David Barnea took leadership of the agency. It was initially used to push senior Iranian officials out of leadership positions, including through the leak of compromising information via media outlets and social networks.
A former head of the unit, identified only as “A.,” told Israel Hayom that such operations are “much cheaper and easier” than targeted killings, and claimed the Mossad has already been involved in the removal of several senior Iranian officials.
According to the source, the overthrow of the Islamic Republic has become one of Mossad’s key missions, and recent activities are part of a long-term process rather than a completed campaign.
“We are not done with Iran yet. We are just getting started,” the source added.
Israel Hayom also cited sources who recently spoke with Barnea, saying the Mossad chief believes the Islamic Republic could collapse by the end of 2026 if US President Donald Trump does not sign an agreement allowing Iran’s economy to recover and if the pressure campaign continues.
