Media: Lebanese president to seek US assurances on Israeli troop withdrawal

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun is expected to seek assurances from the United States on the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese territory during an upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump, Al Akhbar reports, citing diplomatic sources in Beirut.

According to the report, Washington would in return seek firm commitments from the Lebanese leadership to fully end Hezbollah’s military presence across the country.

The newspaper also reported that Trump was expected to urge Aoun to establish direct contact with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to work jointly on the disarmament of Hezbollah.

The sources said the United States was expected to play an active role in the process and provide support to both Lebanon and Syria.
