Media: Lebanon seeks US help to secure Israel withdrawal deal
Lebanon has requested assistance from the United States to help secure the implementation of a framework agreement with Israel, according to media reports.
The London-based Arabic-language newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported, according to Israeli media, that Lebanon is seeking US support to consolidate the results of the agreement, particularly the agreed withdrawal of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), following what were described as “concerning signs from Israel of a delay in the process.”
Lebanese sources told the newspaper that US Central Command (CENTCOM) commander Brad Cooper, during a recent visit to Lebanon, laid the groundwork for pilot zones from which Israeli forces would withdraw. One of his senior aides has remained in Lebanon to oversee the implementation process, the report said.
