Media: Machete-wielding attackers target Russian tourists in Kenya
Criminals wielding machetes have begun targeting Russian tourists in Kenya, according to the Telegram channel Shot.
One of the victims, identified as Marina, recounted that she was riding on a motorbike with a driver in the city of Malindi when she realised that unknown individuals were following them.
During the pursuit, one of the attackers attempted to seize her backpack, while another struck the driver’s arm with a machete. The blow caused the motorbike to crash at high speed.
Security guards from a nearby hospital intervened and managed to frighten the assailants away. Both Marina and the driver received medical assistance at an emergency care facility.
Marina emphasised that incidents of this kind have occurred before in the popular tourist destination, including assaults involving other Russian nationals.
Police have detained 13 individuals in connection with the attacks, though authorities believe additional perpetrators may still be at large.
