Media: Sattelite images suggest Russia deploys newest landing ship to Sevastopol
Russia's newest large landing ship may have been deployed to Sevastopol from Novorossiysk.
According to the Sentinel 2 satellite image, which was taken on January 6, at the pier in Sevastopol Bay is probably a landing ship of 11711 Project of Ivan Gren class, RBC-Ukraine reports.
At the end of January 2022, before the start of a full-scale invasion, the "Pyotr Morgunov", which belongs to the above-mentioned project, was transferred to the Black Sea ostensibly for exercises. It was stationed in the bay of Novorossiysk almost continuously.
"Pyotr Morgunov" is the second ship of the series. It was commissioned on December 23, 2020.
It has a total displacement of 6,600 tonnes and the ability to transport a reinforced battalion of marines with equipment, as well as landing on pontoons.
The ship carries an aviation group - 2 Ka-29 helicopters and Orlan-10 UAVs in the deck hangar.
