Media: Taliban, Iran developing app to monitor Afghan users

Officials from the Taliban and Iran have jointly developed a mobile application capable of monitoring users inside Afghanistan, Iran International reports.

Sources in Afghanistan said there was reason to believe the app includes surveillance functions that could grant access to smartphones and internet-connected devices for monitoring systems linked to the Taliban’s General Directorate of Intelligence.

A London-based cybersecurity expert noted that suspicious applications may collect sensitive information, including location data, contacts, messages, browsing history, and permissions granting access to device functions.
