Media: UK PM Starmer, US President Trump to meet in Scotland
Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to meet US President Donald Trump during Trump's private visit to Scotland later this month, Downing Street confirmed on July 14.
While the meeting will not take the form of a formal bilateral, a spokesperson for the UK prime minister said Starmer had accepted an invitation from Trump to meet during his stay, Caliber.Az cites a Guardian report.
“There will not be a formal bilateral, but the prime minister is pleased to take up the president’s invite to meet during his stay,” the spokesperson told reporters at the regular Downing Street lobby briefing.
The visit, which is being treated as private, has prompted preparations by Police Scotland, who last week confirmed they were readying security arrangements for a presidential visit.
Trump will not be meeting King Charles during this trip. However, a full state visit to the United Kingdom is expected to take place later this year—his second such visit. He was previously hosted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2019 during his first term in office.
