Media: Ukraine receives over 200 bodies of soldiers in repatriation effort

02 August 2024 15:01

The Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has reported receiving 250 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers.

The bodies were handed over as part of repatriation efforts, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.

This transfer was facilitated by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, the Commissioner for Missing Persons, as part of cooperation with the Joint Centre for Coordination of Search and Liberation of Persons Unlawfully Deprived of Liberty as a Result of Aggression against Ukraine under the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, various other security agencies, ministries, and international organisations.

The Russian side has not yet reported on the exchange. On July 17, the Russian Defence Ministry announced that 95 Russian soldiers held captive in Ukrainian-controlled territory had been returned. The ministry noted that the negotiations for the prisoner exchange were held through the United Arab Emirates’ mediation.

On July 14, Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets stated that Kyiv plans to exchange female prisoners of war with Russia. Earlier, the Russian Defence Ministry reported on Ukrainian losses for July.
