Media: Ukraine strikes deep inside Russia with US intelligence support
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are carrying out strikes on oil refineries and military facilities deep inside Russia with the support of US intelligence, according to sources cited by the Financial Times (FT).
The sources said Western allies have urged Washington to continue providing intelligence data for such operations. They also claimed that US President Donald Trump was “extremely impressed and enthusiastic” by Ukrainian strikes during the G7 summit in France.
One source noted that Trump held a lengthy discussion on the issue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the event.
Ukrainian forces intensified strikes on Russia’s oil infrastructure in 2026, carrying out a record 30 attacks in May. Energy Intelligence estimates suggest that as a result of drone strikes on Russian refineries, oil processing volumes fell below 4 million barrels per day in early June — the lowest level in 21 years.
At the same time, nearly one-third of Russia’s refining capacity — about 2.14 million barrels per day — was reportedly idle. Against this backdrop, fuel sale restrictions had been introduced in 61 of Russia’s 89 regions as of June 23.
