Media: US Conoco oil facility in Syria comes under attack

22 October 2024 16:05

On October 21 at midnight, multiple rockets struck the US Conoco occupation base in Syria, underscoring a pattern of escalating hostilities in the region.

US forces stationed at the Conoco plant base retaliated with artillery strikes on the villages of Huwaija Sakr and Al-Jafra in the Deir Ezzor countryside, Caliber.Az reports per Al Mayadeen.

“Four civilians were injured, including a woman, while six artillery shells impacted the perimeter of the towns of Jufra and Saker Island, as a result of the US aggression,” Al Mayadeen's correspondent noted.

This incident is not isolated. On October 14, resistance factions in Syria targeted the base in northern Deir Ezzor with missiles. Reports indicated that missiles were launched from the International Coalition’s base in the Conoco field, aiming at Saker Island and the eastern outskirts of Deir Ezzor, areas under the control of the Syrian Army. Fortunately, no material damage was reported at that time.

Further complicating the situation, sources indicated that US occupation forces at the occupied Syrian field bombarded the village of Marat. This aggressive response follows a similar attack on October 19, when resistance factions targeted the Conoco field with two rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). In that instance, the US retaliated by targeting the Saker Island area.

Notably, since the onset of the Israeli war on Gaza in October 2023, US and coalition forces in Iraq and Syria have faced numerous attacks. Currently, the US military maintains approximately 2,500 troops in Iraq and around 900 in the occupied territories of Syria.
