Media: US Golden Dome missile defence may cost over $1 trillion
The United States’ planned Golden Dome missile-defence system may cost more than $1.1 trillion, far exceeding the $175 billion figure cited by President Donald Trump, according to calculations published by Bloomberg.
Military analysts told the agency that both the administration’s target of bringing the system into service by 2029 and the projected spending limit are unrealistic.
Bloomberg’s estimate suggests the eventual price tag could exceed the president’s stated figure by more than 500%.
The agency noted that its assessment was based solely on the price of weapons and defence infrastructure and did not include operational spending, research and development, or personnel costs — factors that could push the total even higher.
Bloomberg also highlighted that, even if deployed, there is no guarantee the system would deliver complete protection.
President Trump signed an executive order establishing the Golden Dome programme on January 27. According to US media reports, the project envisions deploying space-based interceptors equipped with lasers to destroy nuclear missiles.
