Media: US, Israel agree on potential strike if Iran rejects Washington’s conditions
US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly agreed during a Florida meeting on the possibility of striking Iran if the country refuses to accept conditions proposed by Washington.
A prominent official told Al-Akhbar that sources referring to high-level international organizations and Western embassies noted that, alongside this, the leaders agreed to launch the second phase of the Gaza peace plan and confirmed Lebanon’s neutrality regarding any potential strikes on Iran.
According to sources, Lebanon’s neutrality would hold as long as Hezbollah does not engage in conflict. Any involvement by Hezbollah could trigger a large-scale Israeli strike, particularly targeting the southern suburbs of Beirut and the Bekaa Valley. Sources note that neutrality does not imply halting daily operations or pressure on adversaries under existing rules of engagement.
Saudi Arabia is also reported to be actively involved, seeking to persuade Tehran to accept US terms. Riyadh is concerned that destabilisation in Iran could spread to Gulf countries, and that the collapse of the regime could allow Iran to reclaim its role as the region’s “guardian of the Gulf.”
According to the outlet, if Iran agrees to US conditions—including complete cessation of its nuclear program and ending support for Iranian proxies in Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen—an agreement on the Lebanese issue will be reached.
The report added that, however, if an attack on Iran leads to regime collapse, the consequences would also affect Beirut, as Hezbollah would weaken and lose operational flexibility.
