Media: US strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen kill Iranian military advisers

18 March 2025 13:40

The Pentagon has confirmed that US military strikes in Yemen’s Hodeidah province on March 18 targeted the Iranian-backed Ansar Allah movement, marking a shift in strategy from the previous US administration. The Pentagon emphasized that the operation covered a broader range of targets compared to prior actions.

Military advisers from the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including members of the Al-Quds special forces, were among those killed in the strikes, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

These advisers are believed to be providing military support to the Houthi rebels of the Ansar Allah movement. The exact number of casualties has not been disclosed, and further details of the operation remain unclear.

Al Hadath TV reported that dozens of Houthis were also killed in the attack, particularly in the al-Salif area, which became the primary target of the US strikes. Al Masirah TV, which is affiliated with the Houthis, claimed that the strikes destroyed a metallurgical plant in the region. However, Al Hadath sources stated that the Houthis were using the facility for military purposes.

The Pentagon explained that this latest round of strikes, unlike those conducted during the previous US administration, targeted a wider range of sites. Lieutenant General Alex Grinkevich, head of the Operational Directorate of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, noted that the initial wave of strikes hit over 30 targets, including Houthi training grounds. The strikes also focused on key Houthi experts specializing in the development of drones.

Earlier, on March 15, the US military launched significant strikes on Houthi-controlled territories in Yemen, following orders from President Donald Trump. According to US Central Command, the operation is aimed at protecting US interests and ensuring the freedom of navigation in the region.
