Media: US troop withdrawal from Germany signals weakening of NATO

The planned withdrawal of 5,000 US troops from Germany indicates a weakening or potential end of NATO, according to Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff, director of the German Council on Foreign Relations.

Speaking to German newspaper Tagesspiegel, he said: “This is not only about the withdrawal of troops from Germany, but also for some time now about the weakening or even the end of NATO.”

The statement comes after US President Donald Trump announced that the number of American troops in Germany will be reduced by significantly more than 5,000.
