MEP: EU Parliament to potentially hold another vote over EC chief case
The European Parliament is expected to hold another vote of confidence in European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen this winter or in early 2026, according to Romanian Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Diana Șoșoacă.
She indicated that the necessary conditions for a new procedure could emerge within that timeframe, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
This development follows the recent motion of censure led by the far-right, which von der Leyen survived decisively.
On July 10, the European Parliament rejected the motion with 360 MEPs voting against it, 175 in favour, and 18 abstentions. The motion fell short of both the required two-thirds majority and the minimum threshold of 361 affirmative votes.
The motion was initiated by Romanian MEP Gheorghe Piperea, a member of the far-right Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) party, which is affiliated with the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group. It was formally submitted last week with 74 initial signatures, primarily from far-right representatives.
