Merz: Germany must step up as guardian of global order

Germany will have to assume greater responsibility for upholding international order as the United States increasingly steps back from its role as a global guarantor, Chancellor Friedrich Merz said.

Speaking at the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) conference, Merz told delegates that Washington’s declining interest in acting as a stabilising power heightens the need for Germany to act decisively in a world governed by “the laws of great-power politics,” Caliber.Az reports per German media.

“We will have to take our destiny into our own hands in the future,” he said, warning that when international rules lose their significance, the risk of conflict grows.
