Merz says US depends on Europe as Europe depends on US

The United States depends on its European allies just as much as Europe depends on the US, the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated at a press conference following a cabinet meeting.

He noted the importance of NATO unity ahead of next week's alliance summit, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The Chancellor said the United States was "one of 32 NATO partners," adding that Europe should engage with Washington as an equal.

"We meet the US administration on equal terms. America is one of NATO's 32 partners, and we are one of NATO's 32 partners," he stressed.

"We enter next week with confidence and tell the Americans: 'You depend on us, and we depend on you. Together, we are capable of defending ourselves,'" Merz added ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara on July 7–8.
