Mexico city to host WUF14 as forum returns to Latin America after 14 years
The 14th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF14) will be held in Mexico City in 2028, marking the forum’s return to Latin America for the first time in 14 years, Mexican Ambassador to Azerbaijan Maria Victoria Romero Caballero said at the closing press conference of WUF13 in Baku.
The ambassador noted that the forum was last hosted in the region in April 2014, when the seventh edition of the World Urban Forum took place in Medellín, Colombia, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Romero Caballero emphasised that WUF14 will carry particular significance because it will be the final forum held before the 2030 deadline for achieving global urban development and sustainable development goals.
She said the event is expected to play an important role in advancing international discussions on sustainable urbanisation, housing, infrastructure, and inclusive city development ahead of the 2030 target year.
The World Urban Forum, organised by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), serves as one of the world’s leading platforms for dialogue on urban development and sustainability issues.
