Mexico intercepts drone after it crosses US border
A drone allegedly used by a criminal group to monitor routes used by migrants entering the country illegally was intercepted by Mexican military personnel after crossing into Mexico from the US side of the border, Mexico’s Defence Ministry has said.
According to the ministry, a person suspected of operating the drone was detained; a pistol, ammunition and the drone’s remote control were seized from him, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The interception was carried out in coordination with US intelligence agencies as part of an operation underway in the Tijuana (Mexico)-San Diego (US) border area.
Mexico’s Defence Ministry noted that 10,000 National Guard personnel and between 3,000 and 3,500 military personnel are currently deployed along the US border.
