Mexico kicks off preparations for WUF14 after Baku urban forum

Mexico has begun preparations for the 14th World Urban Forum (WUF14), following the conclusion of the 13th edition held in Baku, Mexico’s ambassador to Azerbaijan said.

Speaking at a press briefing after the forum, Ambassador María Victoria Romero Caballero said Mexico was taking on the organisation of the next edition “with a serious commitment” to build on the outcomes of WUF13, which was hosted by Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

She praised Azerbaijan’s hosting of the event, highlighting the contribution of volunteers and the support provided to international delegations throughout the forum.

“We thank the Government of Azerbaijan for its generosity and hospitality, and UN-Habitat for enabling meaningful participation,” she said.

The ambassador confirmed that coordination between the Government of Mexico City and Mexico City, alongside UN-Habitat, would begin immediately to define cooperation frameworks, governance models and strategic priorities for WUF14.

She noted that the forum’s return to Latin America would mark its first staging in the region in 14 years, following its previous edition in Medellín, Colombia. She also said WUF14 would be the final edition held before 2030, underscoring its “particular significance”.

The World Urban Forum, convened by UN-Habitat, is a global conference on urban development, bringing together governments, city leaders and experts to address challenges linked to rapid urbanisation.
