Michigan mother, stepfather charged with murder after killing daughter
Authorities in Michigan have charged a mother and her husband with murder after allegedly killing their 22-year-old daughter and cutting her unborn child from her womb.
Rebecca Park, who had been reported missing for about a month, was found dead on November 23. Medical examiners confirmed that her baby had been removed while she was still alive, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Prosecutors allege that on November 3, Cortney and Bradly Bartholomew drove Park to a forest, where they carried out the attack. Neither the mother nor her unborn child survived. A prosecutor described the couple’s actions as “evil personified.”
Cortney Bartholomew reportedly gave her 14-year-old son a sedative on the day of the crime and forced him to record a video claiming she had been with him all night. The boy later admitted that he could not clearly recall the events due to the sedative.
The Bartholomews now face six counts of serious crimes, each carrying a potential life sentence. They are being held in custody without the possibility of bail.
