Minister: Israel not obliged to follow US deal with Iran

15 June 2026 11:00

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has stated that Israel does not consider itself bound by the agreement proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump involving Iran, emphasising that Israel will independently determine its national security policy.

In a post on the social media platform X, Ben Gvir wrote:

“The Trump agreement does not bind us. Israel does not obey the United States, and we are an independent and sovereign state,” the minister said.

He added that while Israel values U.S. support and appreciates President Donald Trump’s position, national security decisions must be guided solely by Israel’s interests.

“My position is clear: we are not parties to this agreement, which does not care about our security, and it does not bind us in any form. We have no right to compromise, demanding less than the disarmament of Hezbollah, we have no right to withdraw from any territory our fighters have taken… And above all, we have no right to remain silent even for a moment in the face of attacks on Israel,” he stated.

Ben Gvir further said that any drone or rocket launched from Lebanon toward Israeli territory would result in an Israeli strike on the Dahieh district in Beirut.

“This was the balance of deterrence just a few months ago, and we cannot abandon it under any circumstances,” he added.
