Minister: Spain ready to discuss EC initiative on aviation fuel procurement
Spanish Minister for Ecological Transition Sara Aagesen has stated that the country is ready to participate in a potential European Union plan for the joint use of aviation fuel reserves and is considering the option of joint procurement, Reuters reports.
According to her, such measures could improve supply security and reduce prices through increased collective purchasing power among EU countries. She emphasised that Spain supports European solidarity and is ready to actively take part in discussions on the European Commission’s initiative.
Aagesen noted that thanks to its developed refining sector and supplies from the United States and North Africa, Spain is in a more stable position compared to several other EU countries. She said Spanish refineries have already increased production, which has allowed the country to build up high aviation fuel stocks ahead of the summer season.
The minister also added that Spain is awaiting the European Commission’s response to a proposal from several countries to introduce emergency measures in the energy sector, including possible windfall taxes on companies’ excess profits.
