Minister: Ukraine seeks continued US military backing, pressure on Russia
Ukraine is counting on sustained strategic support from the United States, including continued weapons deliveries, as part of broader efforts to end the war with Russia, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
Speaking at an event hosted by the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM), Sybiha underlined that US engagement remains essential for achieving meaningful progress in peace efforts.
He stressed that Ukraine views Washington not only as a key political partner in diplomatic initiatives but also as a critical supplier of military assistance.
He pointed to ongoing arrangements that allow Ukraine to procure US-made weapons, including advanced air defence systems and long-range missiles, describing them as vital to strengthening the country’s battlefield capabilities. He also noted that such mechanisms form an important part of Ukraine’s defence procurement strategy.
Sybiha further argued that without active American involvement, including both diplomatic influence and pressure on Russia, prospects for substantive progress in ending the conflict would remain limited.
