Minors arrested during riots in Lausanne

More than a hundred young people rioted in Lausanne last night, smashing the windows of several shops. Seven people, including six minors, were arrested.

The statement came from the municipal police on July 2, TASS reports. 

As noted in a press release, "more than a hundred young people gathered at 20:00 on July 1 in the centre of Lausanne." The motive for the gathering was messages in social networks about riots in neighboring France.

"Several storefronts were smashed in the centre, especially in the Flon area and de Geneve Street, the front door of a large store was broken, inside which a young man was detained," the police noted.

"Police officers repeatedly had to disperse aggressively minded young men in hoods who threw stones at them and also a molotov cocktail," the report says.

In total, about 50 law enforcement officers were involved in suppressing the riots. None of them were injured.

Seven people were taken to the department, including a 24-year-old Swiss citizen and six minors, including three girls with citizenship of Portugal, Somalia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and three young men - citizens of Switzerland, Georgia and Serbia.

"The investigation is being conducted by the judicial police of Lausanne under the direction of the prosecutor of the Canton of Vaud," the police said.

The Chairman of the Juvenile Court has been notified of this investigation.
