Mirziyoyev, Trump discuss deepening US-Uzbek ties in phone call

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and US President Donald Trump discussed the further development of bilateral relations and strategic partnership during a telephone conversation on August 7, the Uzbek president's office said.

Mirziyoyev congratulated Trump once again on the 250th anniversary of US independence at the start of the call.

According to the presidential press service, Trump described US-Uzbek relations as having reached an "unprecedented level" and pointed to the close and trusting dialogue established between the two leaders.

The presidents welcomed the implementation of agreements reached at previous high-level meetings and discussed prospects for further strengthening strategic cooperation.

They also highlighted the strong pace of bilateral engagement across a broad range of sectors. The leaders noted progress in implementing a three-year economic cooperation programme, the inaugural meeting of the US-Uzbek Business and Investment Council, and expanding partnerships between Uzbek regions and US states. They also said that Uzbekistan's visa-free regime for US citizens had helped boost business contacts.

The two countries are pursuing joint projects in civil aviation, automotive manufacturing, mining, infrastructure, energy, metallurgy, artificial intelligence, digital technologies and other industries, according to the statement.

On international issues, Mirziyoyev and Trump stressed the importance of continuing efforts to strengthen global security and support the peaceful resolution of international and regional conflicts.

The two leaders also reviewed the schedule of upcoming bilateral and multilateral engagements.

The call concluded with Mirziyoyev inviting Trump to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan at a mutually convenient time.
