Missing aircraft found on Indonesian mountain peak
The ATR 42-500 aircraft of Indonesia Air Transport, which went missing from radar, has been found at the peak of Mount Bulusaraung in Indonesia.
The fuselage was discovered on the peak of Mount Bulusaraung in Pangkep District, South Sulawesi, during a search operation conducted by Indonesia’s rescue agency on January 18, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Basarnas Deputy for Operations and Preparedness Edy Prakoso said the fuselage was located by a ground search team after an air patrol spotted debris in the area.
The first indications of the aircraft’s location were reported at approximately 7:17 a.m. local time, when white debris was seen around Bulusaraung hill, later confirmed by a SAR helicopter.
Prakoso noted that evacuation efforts remain dependent on weather conditions, as strong winds and fog complicate helicopter access, while crews search for a safe landing point to deploy rescue teams near the wreckage.
The aircraft was traveling from Yogyakarta to Makassar and was carrying 11 people on board: eight crew members and three passengers. Contact with the plane was lost on December 17, 2025.
