Modi’s fascism on full display: "Bulldozer action" targeting India’s muslims

02 September 2025 13:36

Muslim communities across India are increasingly facing harassment, forced evictions, and the demolition of homes, businesses, and places of worship, according to a series of reports from Clarion India.

Rights groups warn that the trend is accelerating the marginalisation of the country’s largest minority and reflects growing hostility at both local and state levels, Caliber.Az reports per Shia Waves.

In Ajmer, Rajasthan, Arif Mohammad, a Muslim egg vendor, says he was unfairly singled out when a local political leader ordered him to remove his cart, while Hindu vendors operating in the same area were left untouched. The incident prompted a formal complaint, fuelling concerns over the selective targeting of Muslim livelihoods.

In Assam, indigenous Muslim families are under threat of eviction despite assurances from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma that they would be protected. Families in Guwahati, Golaghat, and Lakhimpur have received demolition notices, while Hindu households in the same neighbourhoods remain unaffected.

The Assam Goria Parishad has denounced the actions as discriminatory, calling for the cancellation of notices and resettlement of displaced families.

In Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, municipal authorities carried out a sweeping “bulldozer action” against Muslim vendors near the Mahakaleshwar Temple. Backed by a heavy police presence, officials razed non-vegetarian restaurants and food stalls, most of them run by young Muslim entrepreneurs.

Vendors allege they were targeted under pressure from Hindu nationalist groups, while authorities defended the demolitions as enforcement against “illegal” constructions.

Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s government has demolished 547 Muslim mausoleums, or mazars, in a campaign he says is aimed at clearing “illegal” structures from state land.

Officials claim nearly 9,000 acres have been reclaimed, but Muslim residents insist many mazars had stood for decades and accuse authorities of selectively targeting their community’s religious heritage.

Together, these incidents underscore a widening pattern of harassment, dispossession, and demolition that Muslim leaders say risks deepening India’s communal divides and undermining the principle of equal protection under the law.
