Moldova hands protest note to Russian ambassador over crashed drone
Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has handed a formal protest note to Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov following the discovery of a crashed drone in the south of the country on July 13, which the Moldovan authorities believe may have been Russian.
In a statement, the ministry said Moldova's airspace had been unlawfully violated by a drone carrying an explosive payload, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"The airspace of the Republic of Moldova was unlawfully violated by a drone carrying an explosive payload. The ambassador was presented with a note of protest from the Moldovan side," the ministry's press service said.
The incident prompted the ministry to summon the Russian envoy and formally express Moldova's protest.
According to the ministry, this is not the first time Ambassador Oleg Ozerov has been called in over drone-related incidents.
