Moldova may sack Border Police chief due to shooting at Chisinau airport

17 September 2023 17:07

The head of the Moldovan Parliamentary Commission for national security, defence and public order, Lilian Carp, has called on the Moldovan prosecutor's office to submit a report on the Chisinau airport shooting case in order to determine the degree of guilt of the head of the Border Police, Rosian Vasiloh.

According to Carp, Vasiloh could face dismissal, Gazeta.ru reports.

"If the prosecutor's office presents information that he [Vasiloy] is at fault, he will suffer the same fate as any official who has failed in his duties - he will resign. That is why it is necessary for the prosecutor to submit this report, and then a decision will be made regarding the head of the Border Police as well," he said.

According to him, delaying investigation will generate "new suspicions in the public space".

Any speculations about this situation may "distort the reality", Carp said.

Earlier in Moldova, three ministers resigned after the shooting incident at the airport. We are talking about Interior Minister Anna Revenko, Minister of Infrastructure Lilia Dabizhi and Minister of Education and Research Anatolia Topale.

On June 30, a shooting occurred at the Chisinau airport. According to the Moldovan Interior Ministry, the shooter Rustam Ashurov was a citizen of Tajikistan, was a member of a criminal group in his homeland, was involved in the case of the abduction of a top manager of a bank and intended to leave for the European Union through Türkiye and Moldova. However, he was refused entry at the Chisinau airport.

Earlier, Moldova explained the lack of information on the shooter at the Chisinau airport.
