Moldova opposes Gagauz leader’s plans to open representative office in Türkiye
The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration has opposed the initiative of Leader of Gagauzia Yevgenia Gutsul to open a representative office of the autonomy in Türkiye.
“Gagauz autonomy is an integral part of Moldova, and our country has a diplomatic representative office in Türkiye. As Gagauzia is not a subject of international law, it cannot open official or diplomatic missions in other countries,” TASS reports.
Gutsul held a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Istanbul last week, at which she asked the authorities of this country to urge the leadership of Moldova to abandon actions to destabilise the situation in the autonomy. She also spoke in favour of opening a representative office of Gagauzia in Türkiye to intensify cooperation in the economy, culture and other spheres.
