Moldova plans to revisit closure of Russian House in Chisinau
Moldovan authorities plan to return to the issue of closing the Russian Centre for Science and Culture, known as the Russian House, in Chisinau, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said.
During an interview with TV8, Grosu noted that Moldova first announced plans to suspend the Russian House’s operations in February, but the ruling party soon shifted its focus to the election campaign, Caliber.Az reports.
The matter will now be handled by the newly formed parliament, according to him.
“The procedure has begun. Everyone was busy with the election campaign — in August, no one was working. But as far as I know, the procedure has started, and now we will create [parliamentary] commissions, establish working bodies in parliament, and we will definitely return to this issue. And [we will form] the government, since the government also has a role in this,” Grosu said when asked about the timeline for completing the previously announced procedure of closing the cultural centre.
In recent years, Moldova has accelerated its shift towards Europe and away from Moscow’s sphere of influence, with the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) government reaffirming its pro-EU orientation following the 2025 elections.
In April 2025, a notable diplomatic spat occurred when Russia expelled three Moldovan diplomats following Moldova’s expulsion of three Russian embassy officials.
