Moldova raises funds to support Ukrainians amid winter energy crisis
More than 256,000 Moldovan lei ($15,000) have been raised in Moldova as part of the “Heat for Ukraine” fundraising campaign, according to the National Congress of Ukrainians in Moldova.
The initiative was organised by the National Congress of Ukrainians in Moldova in cooperation with the Ukrainian Embassy and TVR Moldova to support Ukrainians affected by power shortages during the winter, following repeated Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports.
The organisers said the donations reflected strong public solidarity and a willingness among people in Moldova to help Ukrainians facing severe hardship. They emphasised that Moldova had shown compassion and support during a difficult time for its neighbour.
TVR Moldova highlighted that even short power and heating outages in Moldova had caused fear and uncertainty, while for millions of Ukrainians the absence of electricity, heating and water has become a daily reality in the middle of winter.
The fundraising campaign will continue until February 13, and the money collected will be used to purchase generators for Ukraine.
