Moldova ready to advance EU accession talks, says President Sandu
Moldovan President Maia Sandu has called for the swift launch of official negotiations across all areas related to the country’s European Union accession during a visit to Strasbourg, according to remarks made at a press conference in the city.
The head of state said Moldova is already prepared to begin talks on all negotiation clusters with the EU, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
“Moldova is ready for negotiations on all clusters. We have been ready for some time, and this has been acknowledged by both the European Commission and the Council of the EU. Opening negotiations would allow Moldova to move on to the next stages of European integration. There is still a lot of work ahead, but we want to be allowed to move forward,” Sandu emphasised.
Earlier, Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu stated that Bucharest supports the opening of all negotiation clusters for the EU accession of Moldova, Ukraine, and the Western Balkan countries.
Moldova and Ukraine were granted candidate status for European Union membership on June 23, 2022. In December 2023, the European Council decided to open accession negotiations with both countries.
As the EU is treating the European integration processes of Ukraine and Moldova as a joint package, both countries are progressing through the main bureaucratic stages in parallel.
