Moldova’s EU accession talks reportedly frozen, lawmaker says
Bogdan Țîrdea, a member of the Moldovan parliament representing the opposition Socialist Party, has claimed that the country’s negotiations to join the European Union are effectively on hold.
Țîrdea shared the statement on his Telegram channel, noting that only technical consultations are currently underway, which lack specific timelines and carry no legal weight, Caliber.Az reports.
“The European Union has still not officially opened accession negotiations with Moldova, which means the talks are frozen. We were told there is no rush for now; we need to think and observe,” he said in a video address.
The lawmaker further expressed skepticism that Moldova could achieve EU membership by 2028, despite prior assurances from the nation’s leadership. “At present, the authorities say that we are not ready for accession. The EU ambassador has confirmed this. All pre-election promises have already been forgotten,” he added.
