Moldova sees no expediency of maintaining CIS membership
Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicolae Popescu has said that the Moldovan authorities do not see any interesting processes within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
“The Moldovan government is analysing the need to preserve the agreements within the CIS,” Sputnik Moldova reports citing Popescu’s statement.
“We do not see any processes in the CIS that would be in the interests of the Republic of Moldova. There have been problems with the access related to our goods since 2006, there are trade restrictions in relation to our exports,” Popescu said.
He noted that the CIS has become less relevant for Chisinau.
“We are now analysing the need to preserve some agreements that Moldova signed within this organisation,” he added.
