Moldova swears in new government led by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has appointed a new Cabinet led by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, with the government sworn into office on July 22.

Addressing the new ministers, Sandu stressed the government's responsibility at what she described as a decisive stage for the country, highlighting the need to accelerate Moldova's European integration, boost the economy, and strengthen security and the rule of law, Caliber.Az reports, citing Moldovan media.

"The agenda is clear. We must continue aligning the Republic of Moldova with European standards. Over the next few months, we have important milestones to achieve in the European integration process, and I ask you to prioritize these efforts. In the coming weeks and months, we also have to complete several major reforms that have already been launched," Sandu said.

She nominated businessman Vasile Tofan for the post of prime minister on July 11, a week after the resignation of former Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.

His candidacy was put forward by the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS).

The presidential decree was published on the Moldovan presidency's website.
