Moldovan opposition demands snap polls after PM's resignation
Parliamentary opposition parties in Moldova have called for early elections following the resignation of Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
The demand has been backed by the leaders of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), the National Alternative Movement (MAN), the Democracy at Home Party, and Our Party, who argue that the country's political situation requires a fresh electoral mandate.
PSRM leader Igor Dodon said the public is seeking an early vote in light of the current political climate.
"Society is waiting for and demanding early elections. The situation in the Republic of Moldova is extremely serious," Dodon wrote on his Telegram channel.
Munteanu had stepped down as Moldova's prime minister, triggering renewed calls from the parliamentary opposition for snap elections.
