Moldovan police find debris of crashed drone in Ștefan Vodă district PHOTO

Moldovan specialists from the police’s technical and explosive ordnance units have found a crashed drone on the outskirts of Tălmaza village in the Ștefan Vodă district, in a cornfield.

According to police, the unidentified aircraft entered the airspace of the Republic of Moldova on the evening of August 17, after which an explosion was recorded, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.

The police said, during the inspection, specialists found “a crater approximately 2 meters in diameter and about 50 centimetres deep,” and the blast wave affected an area of approximately 45 by 20 meters.

Officials remarked that debris included components of the flight control system and the propulsion system, which consisted of a turbojet engine.

Specialists also found numerous fragments of the aircraft’s fuselage, as well as damaged electronic modules that are likely components of the control system.

“Preliminary analysis shows that the components found at the scene are similar to those used in rocket-type unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with a turbojet propulsion system,” the police stressed.

The police noted that it is currently impossible to definitively determine the type of aircraft due to insufficient information about its technical and tactical parameters and the absence of specific identification markings.

Specialists will conduct additional expert analyses and specialised investigations to accurately determine the type of device, its technical characteristics and all circumstances surrounding the incident.
