More than 1,600 trucks stuck at Russia-Georgia border
More than 1,633 trucks on the Russian side are waiting to leave for Georgia, the website of the North Ossetian Traffic Management Centre reports, citing data from the electronic queue.
According to Interfax, the Georgian Military Road has been closed to trucks since Sunday due to bad weather. On the morning of November 19, the road was closed to trucks, and on the evening of the same day, traffic was banned for all types of vehicles. On Monday morning about 600 lorries were waiting for the road to reopen.
On November 21, the road was opened to passenger vehicles in the evening, but less than two hours later it was closed again.
Emergency Situations Ministry staff deployed mobile heating stations near the border crossing point.
The Georgian Military Road is the only land route linking not only Georgia but also Armenia with Russia.
