More than 20 missing after flash floods hit Arizona’s Grand Canyon

More than 20 people remain unaccounted for after a major flash flood swept through parts of Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park, park officials said on August 30.

The National Park Service said the incident occurred in Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area, Caliber.Az reports, citing dpa.

The flooding caused extensive damage across Bright Angel Canyon, destroying nearly all footbridges over Bright Angel Creek and cutting off pedestrian access across the waterway.

62 people had been evacuated from Phantom Ranch and the lower North Kaibab Trail, with further evacuations expected.

No injuries had been reported, according to the National Park Service.
