Morning drone attack on Ukrainian capital damages residential building

A morning drone attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv resulted in one of the unmanned aerial vehicles striking a high-rise residential building in the Obolon district, triggering a fire.

“In Obolon, an enemy UAV hit a 16-story residential building on the 8th floor. A fire broke out in one of the apartments,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced on Telegram.

He added that all emergency services were already en route to the impact site. Residents of the capital were urged to remain in shelters until the air raid alert was lifted.

Russian forces have recently intensified missile and drone strikes on Kyiv, with critical infrastructure frequently becoming the primary target.

On January 13, the Russian military launched another large-scale attack on Kyiv and several other regions of Ukraine. From the early hours of the night, Russian forces used various types of aerial weapons, including missiles and attack drones.

At around 2 a.m., ballistic missiles were launched toward the capital, with explosions reported across the city. By morning, Kyiv came under missile attack once again.

Following the overnight strike, emergency power outages were introduced in Kyiv due to damage to the city’s energy infrastructure.

Security concerns and ongoing power shortages have led to delays in several suburban train services across different regions.

The electricity deficit has also forced the temporary suspension of ground electric transport on Kyiv’s right bank. Replacement bus routes have been organised on certain lines.
