Morocco calls for independent Palestinian state
Morocco stands for achieving a political settlement to the Palestinian problem based on internationally recognized resolutions.
Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita made the statement while addressing the opening ceremony of the 6th session of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum at the level of foreign ministers in Marrakesh, TASS reports.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is also attending the event.
“Our meeting is taking place against the backdrop of aggression in the Gaza Strip, of which thousands of people have become victims. King Mohammed VI of Morocco advocates for an early ceasefire, de-escalation to ensure the protection of civilians, and the delivery of humanitarian aid in sufficient quantities to the residents of the Gaza Strip,” Bourita noted.
According to him, Rabat stands for "achieving a political settlement of the Palestinian problem based on internationally recognized resolutions".
“There is no alternative to the creation of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem. There is no alternative to strengthening Palestinian authorities led by current President Mahmoud Abbas. There is no alternative to building a dialogue based on respect for international law,” the Moroccan minister said.
